Benchmark Brewing Company is located in the Northeast corner of the 8 and 15, a convenient stop from either freeway. Viewed from the front, it looks like a normal business in this industrial park, but once you walk through the doors… well that’s another story altogether!

We headed over to Benchmark Brewing on a Saturday. The first thing you notice when you walk through the doors is a really cool art piece with the Benchmark logo on it. Head to the left and check out the wall which features the work of a local artist Danny Griego, really nice touch from a really great artist.

I have to say up front, I don’t usually talk about any particular beers in my reviews because everyone has different tastes and in my reviews, I like to focus on the tasting room and my experience there. However, I am making an exception here. We tasted one of Matt Akin’s masterpieces, Stargazer, on cask. Definitely one of the best beers I have ever tasted! If you see it around town, I suggest you get it while you can, because quantities are limited.

I also enjoyed the many session-style beers, which allow you to sample a few more pints because the alcohol content is lower than in some other styles. In fact, I could see myself enjoying a whole day here. Wait a minute, I just did!

TABLE BEER

sessionable Belgian

4% ABV

A sessionable Belgian in the tradition of the Trappist brewer’s beers. This 4.0%ABV beer is citrusy, peppery, and refreshing. It pairs nicely with a turkey dinner or a sunny afternoon in the back yard.

OATMEAL STOUT

Stout

4.8% ABV

OATMEAL STOUT – Rich and creamy, this beer is a mouthful that can satisfy any beer lover. The flavor is chocolaty, roasty, and reminiscent of coffee with cream. The oatmeal provides a luscious body while the roasted character helps create a clean finish. This stout has been called “life changing” and at 4.8%ABV you can tuck in.

STARGAZER

Scotch ALe

8.5%ABV

Rich and boozy this beer is everything a Scotch Ale should be. Dark in color with some red highlights, at 8.5%ABV it will keep you warm on a cool night. Look for it on draft and in casks, we will also be cellaring some kegs from each batch. *Formerly known as Wee Heavy.
